Description

This position is a remote role.

The Software Engineer will work with customers and staff to gather, clarify and define requirements for custom feature requests. You will be responsible for translating requirements into well written, well-documented code implementing industry-based best practices and standards. Develop comprehensive unit and QA testing procedures. Perform unit testing and participate in design and code review process. Respond in a timely manner to trouble tickets requiring correction of bugs and/or customer enhancements. Provide code fixes, Groovy and/or SQL scripts to assist in both diagnosis and correction of issues.

This position requires strong Java/J2EE/Object Oriented experience with a solid understanding of major relational database concepts, i.e. tables, indexes, SQL/SQLPlus, JDBC, etc. Current software architecture includes Java, JSPs, Java Script, HTML, jQuery, XML, Servlets, JDBC, Java Server Faces, Groovy. The database is Oracle 10g or later. Application deployed in both UNIX and Windows-based environments with Tomcat as the primary servlet container.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of solid Java design, development and maintenance experience.
• 5+ years solid experience working on large scale J2EE based web applications
• 5+ years of Object Oriented software design, development and maintenance experience.
• 5+ years experience working with Oracle relational database and SQL/SQLPlus.
• 4+ years solid experience working Java based frameworks.
• 4+ years solid experience utilizing Java and programming design patterns.
• 3+ years experience working with web technologies including Java Script, JSP, JSF, Servlets and Struts.
• 3+ years solid experience tuning SQL queries, i.e. using explain plans and other tools to analyze and improve performance.
• 2+ years demonstrated Groovy programming.
• 2+ jQuery, Angular Backbone, NodeJS, HTML5 and native iOS and mobile application development experience is nice to have.
• 2+ years demonstrated ability to refractor code to correct and/or improve performance including writing highly efficient Java code and SQL queries. Emphasis on efficient use of indexes, joins and other methods to efficiently query and iterate through datasets. Strong understanding of Java collections.
• U.S, citizenship with eligibility to obtain Public Trust clearance
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Experience with Maven preferred.
• Experience with Eclipse IDE a plus. If no Eclipse experience, then must be comfortable using an IDE that integrates with Maven projects.
• Experience with Apache Subversion a plus.
Highly Desirable
• Demonstrated experience diagnosing and/or troubleshooting issues related to production environments, i.e. analyzing application or database log/trace files, thread dumps, etc.
• Ability to track down and correct issues related to memory leaks.
• Preference is given to candidates who are comfortable working in a UNIX-type environment at the command-line without a graphical user interface.
• Experience with Oracle stored procedures.
Additional Pluses
• Familiarity and experience with Section 508 standards and development.
• Demonstrated experience with mobile applications design, development and testing in iOS, Android or BlackBerry environments.
• Familiarity with security requirements/concerns for web and mobile application platforms.
Java/J2EE architectural design experience.
• Server administration skills.
