Production Database Administrator, Kronos Incorporated, Lowell, MA

Responsible for installing, configuring and maintaining databases in accordance with product requirements and industry best practice. Ensures that database is available, secure, healthy, efficient and recoverable, performs regular system reviews and identifies, plans and implements solutions for current and future need of product and organization. Evaluates and implements high availability solutions, reviews current and new code/scripts against best practices and expected results and designs and implements automation for recurring tasks. Formulates and monitors policies, procedures and standards relating to database management, proposes and implements enhancements that will improve the performance and reliability of the system and correlates database related activities/troubleshooting/planning with infrastructure components like data center layout, OS/hardware, network, SAN, virtualization/Cloud.

Will serve as a member for the Cloud Services Operations Team and support the Kronos Workforce Management, SassHR and HSG operations in the cloud. Specific duties will include:
• Proactively monitoring systems using tools or custom scripts.
• Performing SME for database concepts and implementing solutions.
• Troubleshooting with detailed level technical expertise and providing short term and long term solutions in optimizing and tuning of systems.
• Creating Disaster Recovery procedures in line with RPO and RTO objectives and performing disaster recovery drills.
• Identifying and resolving Database related issues in a timely manner.
• Supporting standby environments using Log shipping.
• Performing periodic Capacity Planning for DB growth and disk space utilization.
• Administering database health check solution.
• Conducting periodic technical sessions for team for training and knowledge sharing.
• Supporting DB Planning, Patching, Migration, Setup, Upgrades and implementation.
• Checking, monitoring, and automating regular activities.
• Creating standard guidelines, standard operating procedures, troubleshooting methods and templates.
• Collaborating with different teams in the Cloud group to create a cohesive solution.
• Working with SAN based storage, VM, Windows Server and related technologies, specifically as applicable and useful to MS SQL Server.
• Implementing and maintaining database security (creating and maintaining users and roles and assigning privileges).
• Providing continuous systems monitoring and problem solving.
• Developing concepts and tools to solve and prevent problems and to increase efficiency.


This position requires a Bachelor’s degree (or its equivalent foreign degree) in Computer Science and 7 years of progressive experience as a Database Administrator. Must also have 5 years of experience (which can have been gained concurrently with the primary experience requirement above) with: (i) MS SQL Server and upgrading major versions; (ii) performance tuning, TSQL, scalability and enterprise system architecture; (iii) designing and implementing database systems and applications in a Cloud-based environment (single & multi-tenant) ; (iv) managing systems with more than 1500 database servers & 10,000 customers; (v) troubleshooting complex database performance issues and resolving highly escalated cases and top priority projects quickly and effectively; (vi) database tools including specifically Server Performance Dashboard, Cluster Administrator, Portqry and vCenter; (vii) database architecture, security and auditing, high availability and backup & recovery techniques, including point-in-time recovery options; (viii) virtualized servers, SAN storage platforms, and Load Balanced access methodologies. Must also have strong verbal and written communication skills, experience mentoring junior team members and experience developing formal recommendations to leadership and creating documentation.
