UKG is looking to hire a Developer Experience Principal Architect to lead and mentor software architects and technical leads in designing and delivering end-to-end development experience building functional, scalable, resilient, adaptable, performant, and cloud HCM services. This person will serve as a member of the UKG Pro Development organization and the Software Architecture community, with oversight on projects focused on design, integration and technical strategies that will help establish the technical vision for the future scale of the Developer Experience at UKG. They will establish the starting point for architectural decisions, patterns and practices, and enterprise architecture scale and efficiencies that will shape how software development and technology adoption will evolve at UKG. As a technical leader in the Development organization, this person will be responsible for coordinating a team of architects, and technical leads, and will partner with Product Owners and Engineering Owners towards successful analysis, planning, design, and delivery of the solutions.

• Collaborate with Development Directors in defining and understanding the business requirements tied to imperative business strategic goals.
• Serve as stakeholder for Developer Experience, and key liaison between the Development Experience organization and the rest of the Development organization, to understand the critical needs of the developer persona, become a champion for developers, and build agreement and consensus across the architecture, engineering and product communities at UKG.
• Lead the definition of UKG Pro’s Developer Experience product and technical strategy.
• Coach and lead Software Architects and Tech Leads to design, deliver, and evolve the services, tools, and solutions that Developers use to build and deliver software to the cloud.
• Serve as Technical Ambassadors of goodwill for our internal Technical Community as well as the external Tech Industry and Academia communities.
• Partner with Product Owners, Engineering Owners when making roadmap, design, architectural, and engineering impacting decisions.
• Lead the team to effectively communicate and present the architectural decisions and technical strategies so that development teams properly understand why the strategies need to be adopted.
• Lead the team in development of architectural significant proofs-of-concept solutions, to assist development teams in accelerating the adoption of the technical strategy.
• Lead the team to develop and maintain a set of incubated coded libraries and components in inner-sourced repositories.
• Lead the team to serve as technical strategic advisors to research work being executed in the Development organization.
• Lead the team to build and maintain critical partnership and collaborative work with the external technical industry, open-source communities, and academia.
• Lead the team to speak on large stages, conferences, and events in order to communicate Ultimate’s technology story.
• Lead the team to prepare and publish materials for the submission of patents, as needed.


• 8+ years of experience in architecting, designing, and developing Software Development Frameworks, APIs, SDKs, and libraries for an enterprise development teams to leverage using object-oriented, functional, and/or dynamic scripting languages.
• 8+ years of experience in Infrastructure and Application Reliability, Performance Management, System/Solution Architecture and System Engineering
• 8+ years of experience designing and delivering large scale cloud distributed systems with global/international and multi-regional/language support.
• 5+ years of experience growing and leading Software Architects
• Expert understanding of security, reliability, scalability, high availability, and concurrency architectural patterns and solutions.
• Expert in solution design across the full technology stack, including for public and hybrid cloud deployments.
• Expert in patterns and solutions that enable evolutionary architectures, leveraging flexibility and creativity when balancing the present technologies with emerging ones when formulating new strategies.
• Software Engineering background, with expert development proficiency in at least one of the main C-based object-oriented languages: C#, Java, or C++, and familiarity with at least one functional language: Scala, Clojure, Erlang, or Node.JS / ECMAScript.
• Extensive experience as architect of microservices, public cloud infrastructure, CI/CD and data pipelines, containers (Docker), monitoring, alerting, testing, and automation in a hybrid-cloud and multi-cloud environment.
• Experienced at building and maintaining a resilient, secure, and efficient SaaS application developer platform to meet established SLAs\SLI\SLO's for self-healing and auto scaling. Improve availability & resiliency of platforms & solutions.
• Experienced in leading the technology decision making and architectural design of DevOps, SRE, Developer Productivity, and CI/CD initiatives for the entire Development Organization.
• Proficiency as a developer and operator in GCP / Google Cloud Platform (preferred), AWS / Amazon Web Services, or Azure public cloud.
• Proficient in cloud application development platforms and services: Infrastructure as a Service (OpenStack, EC2, GCE), Platform as a Service (CF, Azure, AppEngine), Containers as a Service (K8s, EKS, GKE), Docker, Swarm, Infrastructure-as-Code (Chef, Ansible, Terraform, Helm), Logging/Monitoring/Alerting (ELK, InfluxDb, Grafana, PagerDuty), Linux, Bash, CI/CD (Jenkins,, CircleCI), Package Management (Maven, Artifactory), and development lifecycle (Github, Gitlab, CLI, Vim, Jetbrains, Xamarin, Visual Studio)
