This architecture role is a hands-on role combining technical expertise with design and architecture oversight capabilities in the implementation of relational database technology in a cloud environment at enterprise scale. A successful candidate will have solid expertise in at least one major RDBMS (PostgreSQL preferred) as well as operational experience in large-scale database deployments in a cloud environment.

You will work with a team of database professionals and architects to plan, enhance, and implement enhancements to our data layer, supporting numerous business and operational functions, and providing a reliable, scalable, stable data platform upon which our business can continue to grow. You will be part of an architecture team responsible for overall systemwide data strategy, resiliency, performance, and efficiency.

Job Responsibilities

• Define designs and provide technical and product guidance to globally distributed database engineering teams as they prototype, build, and deliver enhanced database functionality in areas such as resiliency, operational efficiency, backup/restore, monitoring.
• Work with data architecture and engineering teams to develop and enhance standards for database design and development best practices, and tools to enforce these practices at scale.
• Inform best practices for application use of database, in conjunction with database development and database administration teams, including application SQL, schema design, and data migration needs.
• Engage with technology vendors to manage open issues and enhancement requests, and ensure timely and appropriate follow-up.

Qualifications

• Expertise at least one major relational database (preferably PostgreSQL / EPAS) such as Oracle, SQL Server, MySQL, Aurora, etc.
• Extensive knowledge of database architecture and implementation planning and execution
• Expert knowledge of efficient database configuration and schema design for OLTP, OLAP, DW use cases
• Strong understanding of database query tuning and optimization
• Working knowledge of middleware / application access methods to database including connection pools, JDBC, etc.
• Working knowledge of at least one major non-relational database, such as MongoDB, Cassandra, Redis, Couchbase, DynamoDB, etc.
• Demonstrated experience with cloud platforms such as Google GCP or AWS.
• Working knowledge of software development lifecycle stages required to support Javascript, Java, SQL, and other enterprise languages.
• Excellent communication abilities.
